바탕에는 이름이 없다

김태연(Taeyeon Kim, 1987)규격, 제한, 제도, 조건, 한계 등 현실의 ‘틀’을 인식하고 그것을 작업의 출발점으로 삼았다. 이는 인간이 현실에서 느끼는 불만 혹은 문제점을 은유한다. 작업실 공간의 물리적 한계에 부딪혔을 때, 도구의 규격이나 제한적인 사용 범위를 넘어서고자 할 때 그는 갑자기 막연해지면서도 그 상황이 조금 흥미롭다고 말한다. 이 고정된 틀의 맹점을 찾고 또 다른 가능성이나 새로운 의미를 발견하고 맞대응 할 수 있는 대안을 제시하는 것이 김태연의 작업이다.

Taeyeon Kim (b.1987) recognized the framework of reality in standardization, restrictions, institutions, conditions, and limitations, and used them as scaffolding for his work. The reality-framework is another name for the deep-seated frustration and dissatisfaction that seems to nip at the very roots of human existence. Confronted by the physical boundaries of his studio space, or when certain tools needed to be used beyond allowed specifications, Kim encountered an odd vagueness and some bemusement. Seeking exceptions, back doors, and dead spots in that rigid framework to offer alternate possibilities or even new meaning counteraction are all within Taeyeon Kim’s practice.
